Study Groups
Being involved with a study group allows you to delve deeper into God's word and be inspired on how you might apply it in everyday life while making meaningful connections with others.
Wednesday Women's Bible Study
Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. in our Upper Room our Women's Bible Study continues their study of "Living Discipleship: Exploring the Bible” written by Rev. Used copies are available at amazon.com - The Path.

Tuesday Study Group
The Tuesday Study group meets at the home of Charles and Amy Jordan. This group, led by Charlie, hosted by Amy has been meeting for fourteen years. Email cjordan@pearcelawgroup.com for more information, or to receive the Bible Study emails.
Please consider joining us for our lessons this year. The only things you will need are an open heart, an open mind, and an open Bible.
Tuesday, January 5 we are celebrating “Russian Christmas.” Because the Eastern churches use the old Julian calendar, which is currently 13 days behind the Gregorian calendar used by everyone else, many Orthodox parishes celebrate Christmas on January 7. Our dinner will be Eastern European foods, and Amy will take us through many of the traditions, some religious and some otherwise.
Epiphany Lesson:
For the five remaining weeks of Epiphany this year, we will walk through Genesis 4-11. These chapters contain the stories of Cain and Abel, Noah, the Tower of Babel, and the various intervening genealogies. We will look at these passages from both ancient and modern perspectives, how they have been interpreted through the millennia, and how they have been used in the New Testament and by the Church to help tell the story of who Jesus is. All you will need for these lessons is your bible. As background, I am using James Kugel’s How to Read the Bible and the Jewish Publication Society Torah Commentary: Genesis. (Kugel’s book is the most significant book on the bible that I have read.)
Tuesday, February 17, is our Mardi Gras Party. There is no lesson on this date, only great food, a king cake, and Vieux Carres.
Lenten Study:
For Lent this year, we are reading John’s account of Jesus’ final twenty-four hours contained in John 13-19. In this study, we will focus on Jesus’ Farewell Discourse, which is a series of final teachings Jesus gives his disciples concerning the love and unity among themselves, with Jesus, and with the Father. Again, all you will need for the study is your bible. For my preparation, I am reading N.T. Wright’s John for Everyone and Ben Witherington’s John’s Wisdom.
Tuesday, March 31, is our Christian Seder Dinner, where we walk through the story of Exodus from a Christian perspective.

CHANGE THE WORLD.
We support non-profit ministries that support what God called us to do. In addition to financial support, our parishioners volunteer at some of these organizations, including serving as board members.

- Episcopal Relief & Development - They facilitate healthier, more fulfilling lives in communities struggling with hunger, poverty, disaster and disease. ERD takes an integrated approach: "We listen, learn and work together to build upon local knowledge and strengths that already exist. As a result, our partners and community members are able to live and sustain fuller, more productive lives."
- Fostering Hope's mission is to provide basic necessities for children in crisis situations. At Christmas time, we collect gifts for the children in crisis. Impact stories
- Helping Hand of Myrtle Beach has been faithfully serving the Myrtle Beach community for over 50 years. Our organizational goal is to assist individuals and families with immediate, short-term needs such as food, rent, utilities, and other specialized services, which if not met, would threaten an individual’s or family’s stability. “We seek to provide our clients short-term assistance with long-term impact.” -Executive Director, Tracy Gardner
- Mobile Meals - Serves hot lunches daily to those with limited finances or mobility in the Myrtle Beach area. The Episcopal Church of the Messiah has a long history of supporting Mobile Meals.
- New Directions of Horry County's mission is to help people recover from the crises of homelessness, poverty, and addiction by providing basic needs, connections to resources, and community support. Tonight, over 800 individuals will find themselves homeless in Horry County. Their need of support is great and their success stories are many.
